How We Style It: Vintage Fur

The day my mother told me she gave her fur coat away to Goodwill was the worst day of my life. Okay, that may be slightly dramatic, but I was totally upset. As far as dress-up clothes go, a fur coat is sort of as good as it gets. 

So a few years ago when my friend and roommate Noelle scored the most divine vintage blonde fur jacket on eBay you can imagine how envious I was. And so my search for my own vintage fur began.

I picked up the vintage fur collar below at the Alameda Flea Market in SF and wore it to death last winter. The satin coat with the fur collar I picked up at a thrift store in LA a few months ago. I saw it as soon as I walked in and knew I had to try it on. I'd imagine a fancy lady just like my mother owned it and was trying to upset her own daughter by giving it away.

Now Allison, on the other hand, has Lillian to thank for her fabulous vintage furs. Whether it's the one pictured below, the Dominique Francon leather trench with a fur collar seen in this HWSI, or a fab blonde fur stole to be unveiled at a later date, girlfriend (Lillian) had style like WHOA. And, probably explaining Allison's adoration of TheLSD, her grandmother's initials were also LSD and she thought it was hilarious to monogram everything with them. And we wonder where Allison comes from? Hello, exhibit A.
