The Blonde Hair Diaries

Alice Eve. DREAM HAIR!
I am in a total hair rut, friends. My hair's looking stringy and lifeless, and I'm totally tempted to cut it short. The only thing stopping me is the fact that I have literally been growing it out since freshman year of college (yes, it grows THAT slowly). Why won't it just grow in naturally looking just like Alice Eve's!? I guess we all have our struggles...Allison says sadly while standing on her porch overlooking the beach.

Enough about me, oh wait, let's keep talking about me. The main thing keeping me from going for a short 'do is that I don't know if I can pull off short hair anymore, now that ye olde high school body has gone with way of the dinosaur. Like, I feel like I need to cut weight for a month before I even get serious about cutting my hair this short again.
A photo of me with short hair, from the olden days.
If you need me, I'll be jogging in my trash bag suit, chasing this body.
Before we go any further, I'm gonna shoot you straight - in most of the pictures I take for the blog, I wear clip-in extensions that my amazing stylist in Columbus (Danielle @ Charles Penzone Grand Salon in Dublin! She's so great!) highlighted for my wedding. Why? Because I kinda look like Gollum without them, and it's not cute. My hair has been highlighted and heat styled within an inch of its life, and although there's a decent amount of it, it's super fine in texture.

Below is my super-serious hair growth regimen - I figured I'd pay it forward, since LAWD KNOWS my weave can use some good karma! Enjoy and pretty pretty please let me know your secrets for keeping your baby blonde hair from looking thirsty!
Kerastase Bain de Force Shampoo
I have tried just about every shampoo and conditioner on the market, and I always come back to Kerastase. The shampoo never dries out my hair, which is kind of a miracle, because it naturally has the texture of straw. The conditioner always leaves my straw-hair super soft and never greasy!
Kerastase Anti Usure conditioner
Orofluido Hair Oil
Orofluido has replaced Moroccan Oil as my miracle hair product (thanks, Birchbox!). It smells SO amazing, and makes my hair even softer than Moroccan Oil, which I didn't think was possible!
Viviscal
Viviscal nourishes hair follicles, strengthens/encourages growth of existing hair, promotes growth of weaker, less visible hairs, and makes hair look more vibrant and feel better.
I received my Mason Pearson hairbrush (with gold engraved monogram, natch) from my wonderful Mother-in-Law a few Christmases ago, and it's one of my most prized possessions! I think the monogrammed MP might be my favorite find from Summer is a Verb - you can order them over the phone from The Engraving Shop in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Biotin
Biotin is most often thought of as the “hair growth vitamin.” It is an essential water-soluble B vitamin. Biotin has come to be known for its role in the health and beauty of Hair, Skin and Nails. It promotes healthy hair growth and protects against dryness. It also increases the elasticity of the hair's cortex, thus preventing breakage.
Aquis Microfiber Hair Towel
This hair towel is super gentle on your hair and dries it really quickly! It's another amaze find from our spirit animal Alice at Summer is a Verb

What do you think, guys? Should I stop hiding behind my hair blanket or what? Since I'll most likely chicken out and get my typical quarter inch trim, what are your tips for keeping your strands looking healthy?

P.S. - I also purchased a bottle of Hair, Skin & Nails vitamins from Mother's Market today and then realized it's a men's formula - I mean I'm still going to take them because I live dangerously, but I'm going to hold off on posting a recommendation until I'm sure that they don't make me grow an Adam's apple or something.

    1. I think the Biotin works, but I never take it alone - when I decide to take supplements, I go overboard and take as many kinds of hair vitamins as I can find! :) I think the Viviscal definitely works on its own though! Thanks for the kind words re: short hair - I think I may go super blonde this weekend and then see if I want to go shorter! :)

  3. Thought my ears were burning! Did your mother-in-law happen to email me about the mono'd MP brush? That's vaguely ringing a bell. And, have your tried the Viviscal and if so, what's your in the field report? I dispatched for a box the min I read about them in Vogue but, Dr. Babe did not approve of the non-FDA approved supplements and made me trash them 2 weeks in :(

    1. Like we could do a blonde hair post and NOT mention you!? :) I think that I actually emailed you a creepy stalker message about how much I loved the brush when I got it a few years ago - I am seriously obsessed with it! Yes, I have tried Viviscal and LOVE it! We read the same Vogue article, btw! haha :) I mean, some shark juice (or whatever the heck is in it) isn't going to hurt me, right? :) Good thing my Dr. Babe doesn't know about all the witchcraft beauty products I get into while he's working!! :)

  4. Obsessed with this post!! I'm a freak about my hair, too, so I'm always eager to read about other regimens and products! First, I think your hair short is adorable! Very chic and sophisticated- and I totally think you can pull it off!! I've often had thoughts about doing the same and thought I should try and thin out ye old face as well, lol. I think the real thing that's held me back from going through with it has been the sheer number of options/ways I can wear my hair if it's longer. Second, totally had no clue you clip in extensions. Seriously amazing. Third, I use similar products and am a huge proponent of biotin. I take Phyto vitamins- http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml;jsessionid=XRIWI4YLKZKBUCV0KRTQX0Q?id=P2884&categoryId=C13320 and swear by them. I also take a prenatal vitamin (haha), and a combination of the two has made my hair grow like a weed and be super healthy and strong! I switch back and forth between any/all Kerastase products, Paul Mitchell Strength shampoo, and Paul Mitchell Awapuhi shampoo/conditioner. Before drying I religiously spray Paul Mitchell Super Strong Liquid Treatment and then use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. Also swear by these two- I went through a period of time where my hair was breaking off a lot and these two products have literally transformed my hair and save it from heat/breakage! Taking care of blonde hair is seriously a part-time job, lol. Keep us all posted on what you decide to do! :)
