Style Icon: Ali MacGraw in Love Story

via
It probably comes as no surprise that I am obsessed with the movie Love Story. Star-crossed lovers, peacoats, plaid, sassy 'tudes (instead of just being nice to someone you like as a normal person might do), tights, libraries, autumn, and then...tragedy! Duh. It should just be called "Dolder, You're Going To Like This One!"

Ali MacGraw's character, Jenny Cavalleri, has a wardrobe that is just...too much. So much plaid. So much red. Such serious coats. In the movie, she is supposed to be a working-class music student, but I'm not buying it. Homegirl must be shopping at the most choice Goodwill store in Cambridge, the way she is turning it out.

Check out my updated takes on a couple of my fave looks of Jenny's from the film, and let me know if I'm insane in thinking that it's acceptable to start wearing plaid skirts again at the age of 28? But don't be too mean if you think it's unacceptable, because I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm going for it! ;)

  1. I always rock a plaid mini this time of year (now at age 30!)--totally acceptable with tights and flats.

  4. You know...I am not sure I have ever seen Love Story! I will add that on my list of things to do including your recommendation of The Fountainhead. I need to get it together...missed all the classics! BTW I have been wanting to order from Dorothy Perkins but haven't...any success?
