Dreaming of Palm Springs

The Mira Loma Hotel in Palm Springs. Via.
Maybe its because I was just in Los Angeles this weekend or maybe its because of my research for this week's Tartan & Sequins Style File post for Classic Bride (live May 3rd), but I cannot get Palm Springs out of my head. Amazing weather aside, I just love the vibe out there. Palm Springs is ultra-cool, ultra-chic and ultra-retro.
Sinatra's house, its like whatever.
For those of you who are less familiar with Palm Springs, this epicenter of laid-back glamour is located about 2 hours (without traffic of course) east of Los Angeles. Since the 1920's Hollywood stars have been flocking to the hot, dry, sunny weather and seclusion in Palm Springs. The stars commissioned architectural modernists who flourished using the city to explore architectural innovations, new artistic venues, and an exotic back-to-the-land experiences according to Wikipedia. AKA, there are a LOT of cool homes there. Here is one of the most famous homes in Palm Springs, the Kaufmann House, designed in 1946 by Richard Nuetra.

Now imagine those amazing homes and the cocktail parties that must have taken place in them. Between celebrities like Bob Hope, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Jayne Mansfield, Cary Grant, Elvis Presley, George Hamilton, Gloria Swanson and Joan Collins (to name a few) and all the other beautiful people flocking from Los Angeles, it must have been a BALL. I'll take that martini straight-up please!

Now my best friend and I are planning a vacation to Palm Springs soon and I just cannot wait. Thinking of all the places we'll go and sun we're going to get makes me so happy. And of course, there are the ensembles. Given the history and glamour of Palm Springs, one simply cannot show up in a t-shirt and shorts. Sinatra would roll over in his grave. No, for a Palm Springs vacation, this is what I am thinking:
