Red Pants Redux

You know those items you buy and you're really excited about them but then you realize you only have like one thing to wear them with? Yep, that happened to me with these pants. I really did have grand plans for these pants, but nothing, except the blouse I wore them with in the post, seemed to work.

J.Crew BlazerFeel the Piece Tank Top, Target Pants (similar here and here),
Rebecca Minkoff Bag (here and here), Jimmy Choo Heels,

Rachel Zoe Necklace (similar), Banana Republic Bracelet

Fast-forward to this Saturday night and a 'throw caution to the wind' attitude, and I was ready to rock them again. I paired them with my new white tank and nude heels, and it just seemed to work. I wanted to glam the look up further, because well, they are pajama pants, so I added some big old gold pieces and some curls.

Onzie Workout Legging Giveaway

Onzie Leggings in Summer Solar System (cropped version here), Onzie Strappy Sports Bra

As you learned in this post, I have been on the serious hunt for some cool workout pants. In my search, I came across the brand Onzie and fell in love. I ordered this pair (seen on Instagram here) and couldn't wait for them to arrive. I wore them as soon as I got them, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint.

Not only was the print fabulous, but the pants were incredibly well made. One of my biggest gripes with workout pants is that you often have to choose between ones that are too tight or ones that fall down at the waist. The great thing about Onzie leggings is that they fit comfortably and they stay up, whether you are running or doing pilates/yoga. Needless to say, I'm hooked.

In fact, I am so hooked that I have partnered with Onzie to give away a pair of their leggings to one lucky Tartan & Sequins reader! Use the entry form below to enter to win the same pair I am rocking in these photos. The contest will run until 6/23 at 6pm and I will announce the winner on 6/24. Happy entering!

Periwinkle Leather Jacket

As I mentioned in my Rome recap, I scored an incredible leather jacket while on our trip. I have a major thing for moto jackets (seen here, here and here) so it was no surprise that I fell in love with this periwinkle number. I actually stopped in my tracks when I saw it in the store window. It was definitely a splurge, but considering how much use I am getting out of it, it was worth it.

I've been wearing the jacket in my favorite way, usually with a v-neck in skinnies. However, this past weekend, I mixed things up. My husband and I headed to a local street fair and I decided to rock the jacket over a long black maxi. Here are some snaps of the look.

Pinko Leather Jacket (in black here, more affordable option here and you can see it on model here),
Pink Stitch Resort Maxi, Target Sandals (old but similar here and here),

Skinnybling Diamond Necklace (similar), Bauble Bar Love Necklace (similar here, splurge here)

Travel Recap - Rome, Italy

I know it's been a few weeks now since I've been back from Italy so apologies for the delay in sharing my Rome recap. You know how it is- life got in the way :)

After four wonderful days in Florence, we headed off to Rome. Much like in Florence, our days were structured so that we began with a quick breakfast, did several hours of sightseeing, took a load off at a yummy lunch, checked out some more sights, headed home for a nap, had some appetizers and wine and then headed out to dinner. The weather was much warmer in Rome though and we scored a great apartment with a patio, so we'd often hang out there in the afternoon- it was so lovely! Here are some snaps from the trip.

One of the best decisions we made was to stay in Trastevere. One of the benefits of staying in Trastevere was all of the cute restaurants and shops around every corner. On the first day, we arrived earlier than expected so were able to enjoy a late lunch in our neighborhood. It was actually one of the few meals I didn't plan in advance but ended up being one of the best! It was great to be able to site outside in the sun and enjoy some wine.

The next day, our first official day on Rome, we headed to the Vatican. We checked out the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. We weren't allowed to take any pics inside the Sistine Chapel but snapped tons of pics in the other spots. What a stunning display of art and religion.

After a long day of sightseeing, we headed to dinner to taste what one friend deemed "the best pasta in all of Rome." Let me tell you, we were not disappointed! We had two courses of pasta, TC had a huge steak and we topped it off with some tiramisu. We were not disappointed!

We spent the next day sightseeing around old Rome, so the Colosseum, Palantine Hill and the Roman Forum. IT WAS SO COOL. I actually think the Roman Forum was my favorite sight of the trip. It was incredible to see such history preserved.

After a leisurely lunch at a great wine bar, we headed back out for some gelato and to see the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. What stunning works of art!

The next day, thanks to one of your suggestions, we headed to a COOKING CLASS!! We met up with the chef, Federico, at the market to pick out the ingredients and then stopped by local cheese and butcher shops on our way to the apartment. When we got there, everything was set up for us to start cooking. We made three types of pasta from beginning to end. It was such a fun experience and one I really recommend! When in Rome right? ;)

Our final day in Rome was deemed "Julia's shopping day." I did some major research on all of the best shopping and TC mapped out our whole day. While I wanted to skip most of the designer shops (because I can easily go here in SF), I did want to hit up the local Italian boutiques. I scored an awesome leather jacket and glitter sneakers

We hit up an incredible spot for lunch where the dishes just kept coming. This combo was divine. Naturally, we had to indulge in some Limencello to celebrate my new purchases.

And finally, on our last night in Rome, we headed back to one of our favorite pizza places. The weather was perfect so we sat outside. A bottle of wine and two pizzas later, we were two happy campers.

So it's safe to say we had the best time ever in Rome! The sights, the food- all incredible. Speaking of food, keep an eye out for my food recos post, coming soon.
