Fall Plaid

After weeks of Indian Summer, things have finally started feeling like fall here in San Francisco. On the first day of a chill, I am took full advantage and went straight for my favorite fall look- PLAID. I mean, this blog isn't called 'Tartan & Sequins' for nothing! To edge up the look, I paired my plaid button down with my favorite coated denim from Madewell and a bold lip.

Pumpkin Banana Bread Recipe

With the holiday season being upon us and my sweet tooth being what it is, I have been searching for some yummy, but guilt-free holiday treat recipes. As luck would have it, after reading about my #fiveorless challenge, the wonderful folks over at Nutiva sent me some coconut flour to experiment with. I did some searching and found a super yummy coconut flour banana bread recipe to try. Since it's fall though, I wanted to crank things up a notch so I modified the recipe to create Pumpkin Banana Bread.

The finished product was nothing short of amazing. It was moist and flavorful and just so so yummy. The best part was that it was indulgent, but also guilt-free. Now, it look more than 5 ingredients to make but all were ingredients that I could pronounce and had little-to-no processing involved. So if you are looking for an incredibly yummy, but guilt-free holiday treat, this recipe is for you. Paleo or gluten free friends, you will especially love this :)

Pumpkin Banana Bread with Coconut and Cashew Flour (modified from this recipe)

Ingredients
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cashew flour (or almond)
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 mashed banana
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (or honey)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, chocolate chips, or berries (optional)

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Using a whisk or fork, blend all the dry ingredients together.
  3. Add the wet ingredients together, blend well, and then mix them into the dry ingredients. I used a mixer to ensure the batter is well blended.
  4. Grease the baking pan with coconut oil. Add the batter to the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes or until the top is browned and a toothpick inserted in the middle of the bread comes out clean.
  6. Cool and slice. Store sealed at room temperature for a few days, in the refrigerator for a few weeks, or freeze for a few months.

Enjoy!! Xo J

Oxblood

Mirrored Ray-Ban Aviators, Helmut Lang Sweatshirt Jacket (last seen here), Madewell Skinny Skinny Zip Racetrack Jeans,
Rag & Bone Harrow Booties, Kenneth Jay Lane (similar) and Hermes Bracelets, Gorjana Super Star Necklace

What I love most about fall style is the rich colors- the deep emeralds, beautiful navys and of course, the beautiful burgundies and oxbloods. Last fall I was on the hunt for a pair of oxblood skinnies but didn't get my act together in time so I missed out. I was not messing around this year and so the second I spotted these Madewell oxblood moto skinnies, I scooped them right up. I mean talk about a dream pair of jeans for fall!

Current Obsessions

Quay Ziggi Sunglasses - On sale here!

I usually try to keep my posts focused on one subject, but I have recently come across a few obsessions here and there which, while fabulous, are perhaps not worth a dedicated post each. I wanted to share them with all of you though, so please enjoy this compilation of my current obsessions.

Quay Sunglasses - I recently came across the Australian brand Quay and their chic sunglasses. Their styles are so fun and fabulous, and even better- affordable! I'm trying to decide between the KittyZiggi and Frankie - which should I get?!

Perfective Ceuticals Eye Serum - This eye serum is lovely. It goes on really smoothly and smells great and I have noticed more brightness around my eyes.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Bow Pencil - I have recently gotten into binge watching beauty You Tube videos and, as a result, have become obsessed with my brows. One of the products that most of the beauty vloggers swear by is this brow pencil. I will be picking this sucker up this weekend for sure.

Rewined Spiked Cider Candle - This candle smells so much like fall it hurts. It's currently making my home feel 10x more festive.

So those are my current random obsessions. Any other goodies I should check out?!

Destroyed Denim

Hinge Army Jacket (runs big, get a size down and it will still be baggy), J.Brand Destroyed DenimH&M Sleeveless Blouse (sold out online, similar here and here)Rag & Bone Harrow BootiesRebecca Minkoff Quilted Crossbody BagPrada Cat Eye Sunglasses,Banana Republic Bracelet (similar), Hermes H Bracelet, J.Crew B&W Bangle, Gorjana Super Star Necklace

After seeing my buddy Natalie rocking these J Brand destroyed jeans I promptly added them to my shopping basket. They're sort of everything I love in a jean- dark, skinny and destroyed. I'm also partial to J Brand because of how they fit me. So ya, it was sort of a no-brainer to order them and when they arrived, I was really excited.

You know I love me an all black look so I paired them with a sleeveless black blouse and black booties. I'm also addicted to this army jacket (pretty much haven't worn any other jackets since I got it) so it was a natural fit. Casual and put together with an edge, just the way I like it.

Everlasting Love

A few weeks ago, I shared my everlasting love for New Balance trainers. I gathered some of my favorite styles and showed how some fab ladies were rocking them. Well, what sort of blogger would I be if I didn't show you how I styled them too?

The perk of shooting with a friend- lots of laughs!

My favorite way to rock the New Balance trainers is with jeans and a t-shirt. But of course it's not that simple. Choose the wrong jeans and t-shirt and things can get reallll frumpy real quick. The key is sleek skinny jeans and a more polished t-shirt. To class things up even more, add a classic jacket or coat, like this Burberry trench. The look ends up being effortlessly polished, not to mention incredibly comfortable.

Ray Ban Aviators, Burberry Trench (major steal here), Madewell Pocket Tee, BDG Denim (similar here),
New Balance Classic Trainers, Prada Bag, Adriana Orsini Earrings, HRH Bracelet (similar here, here and here)

So what do you think of the trainer trend? Will you be rocking it this fall?

Leopard and Lavender

Ray Ban Aviators, JCrew Blouse, Madewell Skinny Coated Moto JeansSteven Leopard Flats,
Prada Bag,
Banana Republic (similar and on sale!) and Hermes Bracelets

When my leopard flats went kaput around this time last year, I was devasted. Okay, that may be a little dramatic, but for a girl who wears a LOT of black and white, my leopard flats were my saving grace for a pop of pattern and fun. I'd been on the hunt for a replacement pair, even did a post on the matter, but nothing was knocking my socks off. Luckily my perseverance paid off and, after almost a year of searching, these Steven leopard flats came home with me.

Now, just to really go wild, I paired my new leopard flats with this lavender blouse from J.Crew. As I just mentioned, my comfort zone is black and white, but when I saw this blouse, I knew it needed to be mine. The color was just too pretty to pass up!

Product Review: GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Treatment Mask

I don't know what the heck has been going on recently, but my skin has seen better days. Aside from the regular signs of aging, my pores have gotten huge and my skin just looks TIRED. Naturally, this does not please me, so I turned to the internet and my favorite beauty bloggers Dena, Sascha and Megan for their advice on the best face mask to help me out.

The ladies gave me tons of great options to try! After doing some research and testing out a few products, I have found one that I love. Sidenote: That's the thing about beauty products right- there's never just one mask, one lipstick, one concealer etc. You just have to try things out and find what works best for you, for whatever issue/thing you are trying to address. A good recommendation always helps though!

So the face mask I am in love with is the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Treatment Mask. I chose this mask because all my research said how effective it was and how it left your skin glowing. I watched a lot of trial videos and I felt like all of the ladies trying the product felt the same way. GOD I LOVE THE INTERNET.

Anyways, the way the mask works is that, while it dries, you can see it cleaning out your pores- literally little dots show up all over the mask. It's totally gross and awesome at the same time! Once you remove the mask, your skin really is SO soft and clear looking. Even better, when I woke up the next morning, my skin looked so divine, I wondered if I actually even needed to wear makeup. Usually when that happens, after I put makeup on, I think "oh God what was I thinking before." This time though, I was happily surprised that that was not the case. The GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Treatment Mask totally worked and I can't wait to keep using it! A definite recommend for anyone looking to clean up their skin.
