Newport Beach Adventures

Allison's hood, it's like whatever.

As you all know, this past weekend TC and I packed our bags and jetted down to Newport Beach to visit Allison and Ben. As you know, it was my birthday on Saturday and Ben's birthday on Sunday so the trip was timed perfectly. We got in late Thursday night and headed to a quick dinner and drinks. Okay, the drinks weren't quick, but you get the idea. Then on Friday, we went for a long walk along the beach with Clementine- who is now BFFs with TC. No seriously, check out the shot below. He totally insisted on walking her.

Totes BFFs.
Our new T&S HQ, naturally.

On Friday night we headed over to Allison and Ben's for some drinks before heading to The Cannery for dinner. It was there that I had what I now consider to be the best drink ever- chocolate covered bacon soda and whiskey. You read that right. It's amazing. Then we headed to dinner. Great drinks, great food and my sassy leather jacket, what's not to like?

A pitcher of Moscow Mule's? Yes pls.

On Saturday, we started the day out with some doughnuts (Ben's favorite), headed to brunch for some Bacon Bloody Marys for TC and Allison and some bottomless mimosas for moi. Then we headed to the local watering hole, Mutts, for some serious day drinking. I mean, look at the size of these beers. Now, I don't drink beer often but I didn't want to seem like the lame old lady ordering a Chardonnay so I went for it. #partyrock. A good time was had by all.

Brothers in arms - TC and Ben

Oh yes, three of us had the exact same phone case...

Style Icon: Poppy Delevingne

The power of the perfect lip.

In my inaugural Style Icon post (Allison usually handles), I'd like to share with you all someone I have been following for some time. I can't remember when Poppy Delevingne first popped up only radar but let me tell you, it was love at first sight. Not only is she gorgeous in a very CBK way, but her style is right up my alley- classic with a twist. Her outfits are always perfectly balanced and homegirl knows the power of the perfect lip.

As if all of that didn't sell you, want to know what else that makes Poppy Delevingne Style Icon-worthy? She's actually nice! I started following Poppy on Instagram recently and noticed her actually responding to fans who comment on her pictures. It made me love her even more. If only we were friends IRL!!

In the meantime, since Poppy hasn't invited me over to play dress up while sipping champagne, here are some of the items I imagine fill the racks of her closet...

How YOU Style It: Emerald Green

We wouldn't be proper bloggers if we didn't recognize and celebrate emerald green as the 2013 Pantone color of the year. Emerald green is a great color because its equal parts regal and playful.

Girl Crush of the Week: Ashley Tarkington of Ash 'N' Fashn

It's our very first 2013 Girl Crush of the Week, and we're so excited to introduce you to the fabulous Ashley Tarkington, an LA entertainment producer by day and blogger by night whose blog Ash 'N' Fashn chronicles her love for fash, styling, and event planning. I initially found Ashley on Instagram (obvi), and fell in love with her glam-meets-cozy-casual SoCal style and casual snaps of her insanely adorable french bulldog.

Have fun getting to know Ashley, and be sure to check out Ash 'N' Fashn

  • Style icons? I've been obsessed with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen since around 2004 when MK went on a little "vacation" and then they moved to NY and put homeless chic on the map. I absolutely love everything about them and lust after their bag and jewelry collection. I refer to myself as the Olsen triplet even though I'm 2 years older, 2 inches taller and there's already an Ashley.
  • Favorite book? Anything pink with cocktails on the cover and titles like "One Brunette and Sixteen Blondes". JK kinda. "The Bell Jar" and "To Kill a Mocking Bird" are my "classic" favs, however my bookshelf is an embarrassing display of chic-lit.
  • What perfume do you wear? It's been Coco Chanel since I was 15, but lately I've been dabbing on Philosophy's Grace when I wanna feel light and airy.
  • Interior Design philosophy? More is more. I have 3 chandeliers in my 950 square ft condo and lavender chairs in my dining room... it's definitely a bachelorette pad.
  • Best "hidden gem" store? LF for clothes and Urban Home for home decor.
  • Must-have beauty product? BB Cream, it's either a miracle cream or we're all being duped.. I choose to believe the magic. There are so many great ones in every price range. My favs are smashbox and l'oreal.
  • Favorite song? "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure
  • Secret addiction? Instagram, wait that's not a secret. Ummm... probably going to open houses for homes I can't afford and then stalking them on trulia.
  • Motto/Quote to live by? If you're thinking about it even a little bit, do it.
  • Favorite drink? My man and I accidentally stumbled upon Fireball whisky last summer, I love it ice cold mixed with diet coke.... and I am NOT a whisky girl. Aside from that it's water, red bull and white wine.

  • Current arm party guest of honor? Maya'z leather wrapped beaded bracelets bedazzled with the occasional Swarovski crystal take up a permanent residence on my wrist.

  • Girl, look at that body! What's your workout routine? Anything on the beach and swapping the elevator for the stairs at my office.
Socialize with Ashley!

Wedding Planning 101: Our Engagement Pictures

After the careful planning you all read about here and here, and extreme tanning, toning, juicing, bleaching, waxing, polishing somehow this:

What I consider to be the worst photo of me ever posted on T&S.
turned into this:
One of my co-workers legit asked me who this was. I guess that's a good thing?

That's right folks, TC and I went and took ourselves some engagement pictures! We worked with the fabulous Keana Parker at Onelove Photography who is obviously very talented (hello, you saw the before and after) but also sweet as pie. I seriously cannot recommend her enough!

As you all know, the theme of our wedding is Southern Charm, so we wanted engagement photos that set the stage for that relaxed but polished feel. Keana's style plus the locations Onelove Photography chose really allowed us to achieve that look. Well that and the totally coordinated ensembles, naturally. So without further ado, are some of our favorite photos!

Workout Tops: Let's Talk About Them

via
Oh, hey, guys! Your old friend Allison here. In the last few months, I have gotten serious about working out and eating clean, but you know what kind of the grossest thing is when you realize you have let yourself go a little and decide to get serious about your body again? Trying to find workout clothes that make you feel slender and willowy. Now, black Wunder Under Crops from Lululemon are a given. I struggle most with finding a workout top that is form-fitting while acting as workout Spanx. You know the kind I mean. I have one raspberry pink Scoop Neck tank from Lululemon which I have had for years, and fits the bill perfectly. Alas, they aren't currently selling any on their website and I've heard that they changed the material to one which I fear will do less to "mask" lumps and more "enhance" them.

Now, here's the thing about my body (it's a wonderland? duh.) - I have what Julia calls a "feminine" shape - an hourglass, if you will. Sidenote, Sunday night while we were watching Girls, Ben told me that I have "a Marnie body." It was so nice and so untrue and I am so obsessed with Marnie that it really touched my heart. Anyway. I've found that if I try to wear a baggy top, I literally look like a giant trapezoid. Some days, my small-ish ribcage is my only saving grace. I also tend to gravitate towards tops that are simple and solid colored (obviously). Keeping that in mind, check out some of the options that I think might keep me motivated to keep hitting barre classes - and let me know if you know of any I haven't listed here that would be up my alley!

Napa Day Trip

Recently, my fiance and I headed up to Napa to take care of some wedding planning stuff. Even though Napa is only 45 mins from our place, we still like to make little trips out of our appointments up there as we do love Napa. This time, we headed to brunch at The Thomas and walked along the Napa River before heading to meet our wedding planner.

I seriously cannot recommend The Thomas enough for brunch. I got a lavender lemonade to start and TC got a spiced iced tea. For my meal, I got a MASSIVE BLTA, complete with an egg because well, it WAS brunch ;) TC got a burger that he said was also delish. Check out the pics!

Here are some pics from our stroll aka when I made TC takes pics of me...
