A leopard umbrella? We were obviously destined to be friends!!

When we ask ladies to be our Girl Crush of the Week, we never know how it's going to turn out. Some never respond, some keep us hanging for a few days and some respond right away. This week's girl crush wrote me back right away and I immediately texted Allison that she was IN! You see, Kimberly is one of my major girl crushes!!

How We Style It - Ankle Booties

Last week, a miraculous thing happened. I received most comfortable 5" platform ankle booties that I had ordered from Auri, and I wore them to work. You're probably saying to yourself, big whoop. Adult women wear heels to work all the time. Not me, tootsies. In the (almost) year since Julia and I have formed our unholy union, I have become painfully aware of the lack of heels in closet, and have recently set about making Queen J proud of my heels game!

When I saw one of my favie Instagrammers @longlostjewelry post a cray-cray cute pair of ankle booties, noting how comfy they were and that they were on supa-sale since the company was going out of biz, I pounced! After wearing them to work last week and getting compliments left and right ("you look so trim!"-  my boss "I think I like these shoes!" - me) I decided then and there that I would have heels permanently attached to my cloven hooves. You think I'm kidding, but I put my work clothes back on after my barre class JUST so I could wear my cutie Auri heels into Trader Joe's and enjoy my newfound fancy lady status a little bit more. Am I about 10 years late on the enjoyment of wearing heels? Sure. Better late than never? That's what I say!

Check out how my main Honey Boo-Boo Child Julia and I style our ankle booties, and be sure to let us know what you wear with your AB's, because one of us (ME) is still new at this!

Product Review: Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner

I bet she totally used the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner this morning.

Say what you will about Birchbox, they have introduced me to several great beauty finds in the past year. You see, I'm not really a makeup person- as in, I really only buy makeup when mine runs out. And I usually just replace whatever brand I already have. I have never been one to lust over the newest lipstick or eyeshadow- I just never got it. Well, that all changed when I got my first Birchbox.

Same here.

The beauty of services like Birchbox and GlossyBox is that they introduce you to products you would have never found on your own. For example, I never knew that I was living under a rock smudging charcoal over my eyes like Lindsay Lohan in Liz & Dick a cavewoman until Birchbox introduced me to the single greatest invention of all time. No, not fire nor DVR nor cake pops. No people, I'm talking about the EYEKO SKINNY LIQUID EYELINER.

This is seriously the best eyeliner on the planet. It's so easy to apply and stays on for hours. I originally got the purple one in my Birchbox but have since also bought the black one. It's only $15 so it's the perfect stocking stuffer (or gift for yourself). You can thank me later.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our home!

Okay, before we talk about the holidays, let's get straight to the gossip. Did everyone watch Liz & Dick last night?! You know I sure did. It was the train wreck that I just couldn't look away from. Sure, I had a post to write, work to do and a bag to unpack but there was something about this movie that I couldn't look away from. Was it the stunning costumes and gorgrous sets? Nope, it was the star performance of one Lindsay Lohan. Since we try to only make fun of ourselves here at Tartan & Sequins, I'll just say that Liz & Dick is a must-see. It's sort of the gift that keeps on giving ;)

Our Christmas tree last year!

Speaking of gifts, IT'S MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR!! As I mentioned here, I freaking LOVE the holidays. Specifically, Christmas. I raced back home from LA yesterday so that we could go get our Christmas tree as soon as possible. Sadly, my fiancĂ© had to work so we weren't able to get the tree yet, but that didn't stop me from hanging our (new) stockings and wrapping some presents. I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!

Last year's gifts. Of course they were tartan!

What I love most about Christmas, aside from the decorating and festive food, is being able to give gifts (of course I love to receive them too but that's not the point). While this year won't be as big as others as I'm currently DI-challenged, I love searching for and finding the perfect gifts for the ones I love. My family and fiancĂ© are pretty good about lists but I always try to find one thing, even if it's small, that's not on their lists to surprise them with. I can't reveal too much, but I'd just like to say I have some pretty cool surprises :)

What about you all? Any great gifts you all have up your sleeves?!

Girl Crush of the Week: Dominique Snipes DeLaney

Work those accessories girl!

If you haven't gathered by now, we sort of run with a blogger posse. We've featured the ladies on the blog in some way and now are lucky enough to call them friends. The newest member of our posse is the fabulous Dominique Snipes DeLaney of Comfy Cozy Couture. I think we met Dominique through another member of our posse, the amazing Bethany of BSOUP. Like Bethany, Dominique is sassy and stylish, plus she loves tartan!! I know what I'll be adding to my Christmas list :)

And now, without any further ado, please join us in getting to know the wonderful Dominique!
  • Style icons? Interiors would of course be Kelly Wearstler. The woman can do no wrong in the design world. As for fashion…I am borderline obsessed with Olivia Palermo but who isn’t, right? She has impeccable taste and I’m always jealous of how perfectly styled she is!
  • Design philosophy? Invest in great pieces, have a plan and buy what you love. If you do these things you can’t go wrong. Decorating a home takes time and patience…or so I am learning. I would much rather wait to save up for a piece that I absolutely adore than to just buy something to fill up an empty space.
The DeLaney family.
  • Favorite book of all time? The Baby Sitter’s Club…I haven’t had much time to read lately, can you tell? I do really want the Compawssion: Portraits of Rescued Dogs book though!
  • Best advice you ever received?  Do What You Love. One of the most important things in life…if you are miserable at work every day it’s hard to be happy! Note to self!
  • Favorite stores?  I should buy stock in Anthropologie…I can do some major damage in that store but it can sometimes break the bank! I love Asos, Shopbop, Zara, TopShop, Dorothy Perkins and Forever21.
Ohhhhh girl, we feel your excitement!!
  • Dream place to live?
Paris-does every girl say this? I just loved my trip there. Okay maybe it was because I had just gotten engaged or the enormous Louis Vuitton store and all the shopping…but even if it was, it’s one of my favorite places!
  • The one product you're obsessed with right now? I am way behind on the Moroccan oil obsession and I just started using it a few months ago. I have “virgin” hair…I know it is crazy but I’ve never even had highlights. Not even with Sun-In! I love my natural color and I am terrified to do anything that would mess it up! But the Moroccan oil has made my hair so shiny and I have less frizz so I’d call that success.
  • Biggest indulgence? Currently, Chic-fil-A peppermint and chocolate chip milkshakes! They are only around during the holidays, thank the Lord or I would turn into an Oompa Loompa…but they are SO delicious. Am I am total fatty for naming a food or just hungry?
  • Isn't Blake everyone's girl crush?
  • Girl crush? Blake Lively. She seems so down to earth and is drop dead gorgeous…I just LOVE her style.
  • Favorite song? Peaches and Cream by 112. Okay, not really but it’s hard for me to choose…I, like my girl Allison enjoy the best of thug life jams. The Mr. is always amazed at my immediate memorization of rap songs (the clean version of course). It’s a hidden talent…but don’t expect to see me spittin’ rhymes on karaoke night.
  • Prized possession? Our golden doodle, Harper. I feel like I am one of “those” people who act like their dog is a human…but she kind of is. She’s hilarious and I’m not really sure what I did with my time before we got her! The best present yet.
Okay seriously, how amazing is this dog?

  • Motto? I am a worrywart; I get it from my Mom. So recently I saw this quote, “Worry is like praying for what you don’t want.” So true, right?
  • Best place on earth? Italy. We took a trip in May and I am already dying to go back. The food & wine, the shopping and the breath taking countryside. How could you not love it there?
Dominique and the hubs being fabulous in Italy. It's like whatever.
    • Favorite drink? I’m not big on cocktails unless it is a strawberry-cucumber gin fizz…I would much rather have a glass of New Age white wine with a slice of lime.

How We Style It: Camel & Black

First of all, I would like to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone!! This year I am thankful for my wonderful fiance and family, my friends, my job and co-workers, and of course, Miss Allison. I think it was about this time last year that we started talking about launching a blog together and what an amazing year it's been. Trying to balance our careers, relationships, friendships and the blog without going insane has been challenging (there may have been a few breakdowns for each of us along the way), but I am so grateful to have someone who is in the exact same position that I can turn to. I hope you all have as good of friend as Allison in your lives! On that note, let's all cheers to friendship!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming with this week's How We Style It.

I don't know about you all, but I am LOVING the warm, rich colors this winter. Of all of the colors in style right now, I seem to have camel and black on constant rotation. The rotation has only increased since I picked up this faboo quilted vest at the Ralph Lauren outlet. I always thought I was too pale for camel but when I popped it on, I knew I had to have it.

Ralph Lauren Quilted Vest (similar), GAP Long Sleeve T, Urban Outfitters Denim,
Steve Madden Loafers, AV Max Bracelet, Julie Collection Earrings c/o

In addition to my RL vest, I reached waaaaay back into my closet for this faux fur-collar camel coat. I've had it for years but wasn't sure I could pull it off. Enter this season's styles and SF's freezing temps and I decided to take a change. I think it will become one of my regular pieces!

I'm not the only one rocking a throwback this week. Allison is rocking her high school camel cords. That's right, I said HIGH SCHOOL. I have to admit, I'm pretty jealous she can still fit into them. Also, how chic does Allison look in her camel turtleneck and black blazer? I think I may need to pick up one of a camel turtleneck myself this Black Friday!

Work Bags for the Gentleman in Your Life

Love Brad, but a Chanel work bag may not be in the cards for TC...

Now I know that I haven't posted on anything related to men's fashion since my last 10 Things Every Man Should Own series post, but in my own search for Christmas gifts for the gentleman in my life, I think it may be time to change this. I mean, if I can reduce the amount of time you all have to spend searching for Christmas gifts, I'm happy to help. We're all very busy ladies.

J.Crew

This past week, my guy let me know that he would like a work bag. He usually just carries his laptop into work but I think he's looking for something a little more durable and secure for the winter months. Plus I think he was getting sick of carrying his lunch in a Sephora shopping bag. Weird huh?

I've done some searching, both in-store (let's not get carried away, we were already at the store registering for our wedding) and of course online. Here are some of my favorite work bags:

Frank Clegg

J.Crew

Kenneth Cole

Kenneth Cole Reaction

Bonobos

T-Tech by Tumi

Are there any other brands/bags that should be on my radar? Xo J

Merry Christmas to Moi

Hey loves, Julia here. you'll be hearing from me a lot in the next two weeks because, well, Allison is on vacation! That's right, two long weeks of JUST ME. Hopefully you don't get sick of me and if you do, it's okay because Allison will be back 12/31. Then I'll be off for my own two week blog vacay :) During the next couple of weeks, I won't be posting every day but likely every OTHER DAY so make sure you check back regularly. Okay enough updates, let's get back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Dear Santa you've been ignoring my letters...

Last week, Allison shared with you all her Christmas wish list. I thought to myself, hey that's a good idea so today, I'm sharing what's on the top of MY Christmas list.

Precious Pajama Sets

I got home last night after a long day at casting and took a nap. That's right, I took a nap at 6:30pm. I knew I had more work to do but was absolutely pooped. If that's not a sign I'm getting sick, I don't know what is. Someone call the waaaaaambulance or order me a waaaamburger and some french cries.

When I don't feel well and/or temperatures start dropping, all I want is to be comfortable and warm. And since I'm trying not to look a hot mess in a baggy tee and my old swimming sweatpants, I need to start exploring other options. Specifically to sleep in. Enter today's post topic- cozy PJs.

PJ come in all shapes and sizes but I think what I'm looking for is a pajama set- like one of those button-down and pant combos. I've never tried them before and I think they may do just the trick. Plus, if I'm feeling sassy, I can always try to pull off this look from Sincerely Jules. Welllllll...

As per usual, J.Crew has tons of fabulous options. As does Ralph Lauren, and who would have thought- Betsey Johnson! I suppose I shouldn't be that surprised given my penchant for leopard :) I pulled together my favorite non-frumpy (at least I think) options. I mean, I can't be the only one looking for comfort and warmth right?

Wedding Planning 101: The Registry

Is this something amazing or something I will get sick of in 5 seconds?

If you haven't gathered by now, I am utterly clueless when it comes to wedding planning. My latest clueless moment? Putting together our registry. Yet another lesson in etiquette and organization that I am getting schooled on.

Stainless steel or cast iron like these?

One of my friends suggested we use MyRegistry.com. It's sort of like Pinterest for registrys where you add a link to your toolbar and click it every time you find something, on any website, that you want to register for. Pretty amazing, if I knew what to register for right? Or is it better to register with 3-4 stores only? I mean, I don't want to miss out on the experience of walking around with that scanner gun right, shooting everything in sight?

Do I want this just because it's pink or will I really use it?

Getting down to the actual items, there are so many rules about registering. What's asking too much, what's rude to ask for, what's considerate, what's a necessity, etc. I did some googling and found a wonderful list from my main girl Martha Stewart. BUT what I REALLY want to know is- what do you all recommend we register for? Any tips?! Helppppp!!

Sincerely,
The Most Clueless Bride
